Afrocentric Keyy Portfolio
This work begins where others discard — in the grain of reclaimed wood, weathered and carrying history long before the first brushstroke lands. On these surfaces, oil paint becomes something more than pigment. It becomes memory. Lineage. A reckoning with beauty that has too long gone unnamed.
Through portraiture rooted in Contemporary Afro-Realism, I honor the full humanity of Black womanhood and the broader African, African American, and Afro-Caribbean diasporas — painting figures interwoven with flora, fauna, and symbolism drawn from mythology, nature, and lived experience. Bold color. Raw texture. Compositions that ask you to slow down and stay a while.
My medium is intentional. Recycled wood is not a limitation — it is a philosophy. What the world overlooks, I transform. What has been cast aside, I make sacred. This eco-conscious practice mirrors the very stories I tell: of resilience, of reclamation, of presence asserted in spaces not built to hold it.
This is not art made to be glanced at. It is art made to be felt, remembered, and carried with you.
This is Afrocentric Keyy.
